A vegan asian/soul fusion oasis
Red Bamboo Brooklyn is the newest Caribbean/Soul/Chinese fusion location for the owners of the Red Bamboo next door to VP2 in Manhattan (see review here at the site).
The restaurant is self-described as 98% vegan, and everything on the menu is clearly labeled. They serve wine, beer, specialty drinks, juices, and vegan ice cream shakes.
While smoke-free is chosen to categorize the restaurant, smoking is allowed outside on the patio.

Anyone going to Red Bamboo Brooklyn, thinking it will be the same as the one in Manhattan will probably be either disappointed or thrilled.
The atmosphere at the Brooklyn restaurant is much more calm and relaxed. You are nowhere near as crowded which is a huge plus in my opinion. They have a full bar and the menu is also slightly different. Wonderful eclectic mostly-vegan menu!
The only downside I've seen at RBB is that the food is super tasty when they get it right, but it tends to be inconsistent. Still, I would definitely recommend it!

My significant other and I searched and searched for a "soul food" vegan restaurant in New York. We finally came across Red Bamboo. After reading the reviews we figured it would be a nice place to try. Now I must mention, my significant other is a CHEF and can cook anything and can cook anything well. Back to the topic at hand, we had the barbeque buffalo wings for an appetizer. The were pretty good. For an entree I had the jerk chicken and he had the barbeque ribs. To say the least, he said his food was okay and I didn't like mine at all. It seemed as though both dishes was made with the same mock chicken as the appetizer. Why on earth would "ribs" be made with the same thing! What a disappointment. Perhaps I went in with high expectations. Perhaps because I live with a great Chef I am constantly comparing, who knows. Then we thought well maybe we should try them for brunch, but all hope left Brooklyn when my stomach starting hurting 15 minutes after we left. So, in other words, I would not recommend this place to anyone for food, however if you want to go to a place that has a nice ambiance and good service, then I would say go.
