My boyfriend and I flew into town for 3 hours to visit a friend who lives near Salt Lake City. We decided Squatters would be the perfect dinner spot for our quick visit based on numerous recommendations from Yelpers and a fellow vegan friend who used to live in SLC. I'm so glad we went!
The clientèle here was exactly what I like to see - tattooed and pierced people, suburban looking families, hipsters, and business folk all in one place enjoying delicious beer and delectable bar food with a modern, healthier, slow foodie, locavore twist.
Service was slow at first. Once I got the waitress's attention, I was sure to let her know that we had a plane to catch. Thankfully, she stepped up the pace and didn't have too much of an attitude about my straightforward request.
I had the Tempeh salad. The tempeh was perfectly toasted and worked amazingly well with the artichoke hearts and other flavors/textures. I'd most definitely order this again if I'm ever fortunate enough to come back.
My boyfriend had the Chef's Veggie Burger. I snagged a few bites of it and we both agreed that it was the most delicious veggie burger we've ever had at a restaurant. It tastes nothing like a burger (which is how I prefer my veggie burgers). My boyfriend said it reminded him of a crab cake rather than a veggie burger. It's been ages since I've had a crab cake, so I don't know about that, but it was amazingly delicious. The avocado and hummus accompaniments really seal the deal.
I wish there was a Squatters in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
