Mexican cafe
A great find in the El Pueblo Historic Monument area - a vegetarian Mexican cafe!
Their menu has expanded recently; as well as tamales, they now have various vegan sandwiches and burgers. Plus 'the best Mexican chocolate in Los Angeles' according to LA Weekly - and they'll make it with soy milk!!! You can also buy their home-made chocolate to take home to make your own (makes a great gift!), and they sell their tamales frozen to take home.
It's also a gallery & store for Mexican and Central American folk art. Opening hours can be a little erratic, especially if they've had a late evening the night before. But it's worth getting on their email list to get details of their shows - last one I went to was a flamenco demonstration, with meal and drinks included.

Positively the perfect place to relax and have a quiet moment. You truly feel removed from the city, which is steps away. Food and beverages are great !
My only issue regarding my last visit, was the jug of vodka staring at me, I say hide the alcohol because, the coffee house has the "it" factor, the cocktail environment. We love it, and the shop next door as well~
Recently been back: forget the savory tamales - go for the sweet ones, especially the chocolate!
The tamales are great - the side salad even has a vegan dressing - and the Mexican soy milk hot chocolate is fantastic! There was only one person on duty, but she was lovely, and put real attention into making and presenting our food.

This is a awesome relaxing place....Ive been coming to Olvera Street for a long time. The coffee house which was originally a folk art business has now been transformed into a eco/veg friendly coffee house!!! The vegetarian ground round nachos is a great dish!!
