The Co-op is a 12,000 square foot store front grocery located on 19th and Pearl, just four blocks east of the Pearl Street Mall. The Co-op offers a wide variety of goods including fresh produce, bulk foods, grocery, herbs, body care, dairy, and a deli or cafe. We carry the highest quality, most socially responsible brands in each category.
The goal of the Boulder Co-Op is to be the greatest source of organically grown foods, locally produced when available. In addition the Boulder Co-Op has the largest selection of bulk foods available in Boulder.
Beyond the grocery store, the Boulder Co-Op also includes a Community Center offering $5 daily yoga classes and free seminars to members. Inside the Boulder Co-Op is a first rate vegetarian café which offers a variety of freshly made organic juices as well as delicious organic, vegan entrees and desserts.

The Cafe has definitely improved and offers some pretty tasty items! But read my review for the Cafe (under Cafe Prasad) for more info on that.
The Co-Op itself is a nice place to shop. I live in Westminster which is just about 10-13 miles from Boulder. I go to the co-op probably a few times a month. They usually have excellent produce and some pretty good sales too.
The management isn't that great.. some of the members that work there are really nice though. But I haven't really had good experience with the managers.. they seem not interested and detached.
The Co-Op could be better, but anything is open to improvement. I hope they improve upon the management and also get better at answering requests for new items.
Until then.. I will continue to shop here. I love going to Pearl St anyways... lovely place to be!!
I'm afraid the food doesn't seem to have improved. It still looked like gloop. Their coffee is also really weak.
I would recommend the bakery items in the main store though, particularly the chocolate muffin with mint icing, and the chocolate espresso brownies.
I really liked the grocery store section of the co-op a lot. If I lived in Boulder, I'm pretty sure this is where I would do almost all of my grocery shopping.
I did not like the cafe'/restaurant very much though. The food available the day I was there only included a tiny salad bar and a kind of gloppy hot food bar. If I lived in Boulder, I'm pretty sure I would protest every time anyone suggested we should eat there. (Just for easy reference, I ate there sometime in mid to late 2003...I hope they've managed to improve since then.)

Don't know how the deli was a couple years ago, but their sandwiches are damn good, as is the hot bar. They also do smoothies, cold salad bar, and bakery items.
No-waste dining if you're eating in.
