All Vegetarian and all kosher
This vegetarian lunch counter in the Shulman center for Jewish Life on the Vanderbilt campus. Good food in a simple atmosphere. Chef Michele Knaus creates a daily changing menu of internationally-inspired foods that will satisfy vegetarians and meat eaters. Some days she’s doing spinach lasagna, other days it’s Indian-spiced lentils and veggies and once in-a-while she’s inspired to mix spices so creatively we’re tempted to create a new ethnic group. The every day menu includes grilled sandwiches, a variety of salads and vegan cookies and muffins.
Daily menus include fresh salads, sandwiches and a hot entree or two. The salad sampler includes orangey couscous with dried fruits and carrot shreds, tangy potato spinach raita or a peppery pasta salad. Even skeptical carnivores won't miss the meat in the hearty black bean tart with crunchy vegetables or chewy, grilled panino with garlic potato spread, cheddar cheese and grilled onions. Vegans rejoice--many of the dishes can be made non-dairy. The cookies and muffins are (usually) vegan. One disadvantage is that they use paper and plastic places that are not reusable.
Catering and takeout are available.
*Grins is closed from April 22nd - end of August for the summer.*
Conveniently located at the corner of 25th Ave. and Vanderbilt Place. Grins Vegetarian Cafe, 2421 Vanderbilt Place, is located about two blocks from the West End Border’s Books & P.F. Chang’s. Grins sits on the Vanderbilt University campus across the street from Memorial Gym in the Ben Schulman Center.

Food is good for the student away from home without a full kitchen, or for those who can't/don't want to cook, but it is not exceptionally better than any home-cooked meal.
