A hip restaurant, cafe, bookstore, and theater on U St. in DC
They have a vegan tempeh sandwich with roasted vegetables, veggie burgers, and a variety of vegetarian and vegan pizza choices.
This restaurant is classy, but not particularly expensive (I got dinner and a glass of wine, and I spent less than $20.) You can get dressed up and go here for a semi-fancy dinner out, go for some drinks on Saturday night, or just go during an afternoon for a coffee with your laptop. They have free wireless internet access.
There is a theater and a bookstore built into the space as well. They host plays, film screenings and open mic nights.

I think that the first time I went here, they gave me dairy cheese in my calzone instead of vegan cheese, but they've gotten it right every time I went back. The food is great, the atmosphere is lively, and the staff is really nice. It's the perfect spot to hang out with friends, check your e-mail, or get some work done (assuming you can work with noise).
