Small diner with delicious southern, home-style food with several vegetarian and vegan options. A great place to hang out with friends or to simply sit, sip your coffee and read your paper.
Though the majority of the menu is not vegan, Charlie's Cafe is vegan-friendly with veggie sausage patties, veggie hot dogs, and veggie boca burgers (all vegan). And if you ask, we'll gladly make you a side of asparagus, avocado, and sliced tomatoes (these can also be grilled, highly recommended, delicious!-by request). Though our french fries are technically vegan, they are cooked in the same oil as are the sausage links; though this happens at most restaurants that aren't all veg, I thought I should let you know. Our 'home fries' however, are cooked on the grill and are heavenly: Cubed potatoes cooked with a bit of spices.
On the weekdays (Monday-Friday) we have lunch specials. Though the entrees are typically not vegan, there are several vegetable offerings that aren't available on the weekdays (such as collard greens, green beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc. Even freshly made cornbread (not vegan)! Varies daily). Be sure to ask your waiter if these vegetables are vegetarian and vegan-friendly. Some are, some are not, but do ask because they are delicious!
Have kids? Try our Kid's Cake, one large pancake in the shape of Mickey Mouse with a chocolate chip smiley face. A favorite with the kids!
