I hate to be the barer of bad news, but, unless they have recently changed the recipe, Mathew's pizza crust is not vegetarian. There is lard in the dough. As someone who grew up eating Mathew's pizza almost weekly, (my great grandfather was Mathew) it was disheartening to have to give it up when I went vegan.
Here's an idea for vegans: Order a cheese-less pizza, especially a unique, tasty pizza like they serve at Matthew's. Actually, they don't even call it pizza; they call it a tomato pie. They do not charge you for the cheese unless you put cheese on it! (And why would you want to ruin a great pizza by putting cheese on it?) How many pizzerias do you know that do that? (I do not know of any other.) This is a relaxed, friendly, family-type atmosphere, and the pizzas are superb. Only complaint: the canned pineapples do not live up to the standards of the other fine toppings. Highly recommended.
