Old fashioned Korean tofu house!

This place makes their own tofu, made by experienced grandmothers. They are aware of the differences between vegetarian and vegan, and will ask if you are able to eat eggs when you order meatless entrees. Also, ask for vegeterian Ban Chan (small side dishes) w/o any fish or meat.

The Ya- Chae Cham- Doo- Boo, which is vegetable tofu stew, is made vegan. This is highly unusual in Korean cooking, which has a tendency to use anchovy stock in almost all casseroles. Specify if you want it to be spicy, and they will comply and make it spicy (no dumbing down for non-Koreans).

Do not eat any red Kim Chee. It cannot be guaranteed safe unless you speak with the person who has made it. If it is a cold clear soup with white turnip, then it is vegan.

This was the best vegan Korean pancake I've ever had. The Ya Chae Cham Doo Boo was great. The side dishes were also good, flavorful and not too spicy. I really like the way these Korean grandmothers cook.

inah is right, the Ya Chae Cham Doo Boo is amazing. The tofu is really rich and creamy, quite unlike any other tofu I've had. We also got the leek pancake, which contains scallions, leeks, red pepper, and zucchini.
