Excellent take-out. Specializes in macrobiotic. Louisiana style grilled tofu, seitan, and tempeh

The Well Bento is a hole-in-the-wall take-out counter and grill located over a Chinese bamboo furniture store on the second floor of a very small shopping center (one L-shaped building). The building is in northeast Honolulu where King Street and Beretania merge going eastbound (Diamond head bound). Phone ahead and pick up your order in about 10-15 minutes. Vegetarian entrees include Zen Macrobiotic; Tempeh Scaloppini; Grilled Tofu, Seitan, or Tempeh in three varieties - Louisiana Style, Western BBQ, and Tamari. Transitional Entrees for the non-enlightened include grilled chicken in the same three aforementioned varieties, grilled salmon, hamburger steak, and grilled steak. All plates are served with macaroni salad, coleslaw, and tahini sauce over Lundberg brown rice. The Well Bento uses only the finest quality ingredients available, free of chemicals, additives, and preservatives. All food is prepared without the use of eggs, refined sugar, or dairy products. They use organic products whenever possible. Cash only - no credit cards accepted, but there are ATMs at a bank around the corner. Enjoy! :~)

The food at this place is AMAZING. They have a number of vegan options, including:
- Tempeh scallopini
- Grilled tofu, seitan or tempeh done Louisiana style, western BBQ style, or Tamari/teriyaki style.

It's all served with macaroni salad, coleslaw (both vegan!), and tahini gravy over brown rice, plus a bunch of veggies.

I got the BBQ tempeh and it was FABULOUS. It was probably the best meal I had while in Hawaii. The deli itself is not much to look at - it's not the easiest to find, and it's TINY. No seating, so you have to take your food to go, but I didn't mind that because of how good the food was. I highly recommend this place!
