Eclectic Cafe

Restaurant, Coffee/Tea/Juice

Atlas Cafe is a tiny cafe with a some vegan/fake-meat sandwiches and wraps, such as a vegan Moroccan chicken crepe and pastrami sandwich.

Atlas recently discontinued some of their vegan offerings, including the fish sticks and philly cheese steak.

All their deserts are vegan, made by Vegan Treats bakery, who deliver weekly to a number of New York restaurants.

Atlas has a satellite location, Little Atlas, which serves much of the same food and dessert on West 4th Street between Mercer and Broadway.

First let me start by saying that this place gets the 5 star rating based solely on the dessert selection, which is provided by Vegan Treats out of Bethlehem, PA. Delivery day is Tuesday, so that is the best day to go and get cake, brownies, doughnuts, etc. I have not been disappointed by any of the baked goods. Vegan Treats delivers to a bunch of other places in the city but this has the best selection hands down. If you have a sweet tooth you should definitely visit.

As far as the rest of the menu, I've had a few different things here. I got a strawberry and peach smoothie which was ok, but nothing special. I've had a slew of bad milkshakes here, so avoid those. My default menu item for this place is a fake chicken sandwich with cream cheeze, red roasted pepper and avocado, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is called, which is pretty good and a decent price at $6.50 or so.

This place is cash only but there is a fee ATM at the bodega few doors south on 2nd Ave. The service I've received there is usually less than stellar.

update: Last time I got stuff here the vegan soft serve was lousy and not like I remembered it at all. It was all watery and tasteless and awful too. The desserts were still terrific, though.

They also have a new location a couple blocks from Washington Square Park called "Little Atlas," which is pretty handy.

This place is quite wonderful! They have "real" food--sammiches and such--but I can only attest to the grandeur of their many vegan desserts. A whole case of cakes, brownies, bars, etc! As well as vegan soft serve with all sorts of toppings that you can eat sundae-style or have mulched into a shakey state for your enjoyment. Not the kind of place you sit down. They have about one table and two and a half chairs. But great to go there and grab treats before continuing on your way.
