I think this is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant of all time. I am, by no means, an expert on Ethiopian food, but I have visited quite a few Ethiopian restaurants in NYC, DC, Milwaukee, San Francisco, and elsewhere, and Abyssinia really blew me away. First of all, the food just tasted incredible. I thought I'd had really good Ethiopian elsewhere but most other places may be good but they all taste the same. Abyssinia had a special taste. I had the vegetarian combo platter and particularly loved the yellow split peas. A friend and I also shared the fried yam cake appetizer, which was incredible. Typically, veggie samosas and lentil soup are the only veg appetizers, so I was really impressed with the yam cakes.

In addition to the food being incredible, I saw on the menu that the restaurant sources local produce from nearby farms. Incredible! Finally, the restaurant really recognized the contribution and accomplishments of the cooks and staff, which is very rare in the restaurant industry. Kudos, Abyssinia, I can't wait to return!
