The food that I have had here has been wonderful, but the service, hours, and menu have been so inconsistent that it's an unreliable option for me. It's a perfect place to stop by for a meal/snack while at First Friday or while hanging out at the Lost Leaf or on Roosevelt Row.

The staff are kind of flaky, though the woman I ordered a raw brownie from last night was very attentive and nice. It is a very casual, grassroots community style hangout.

The hours are more like 7pm to 3 am Tuesday - Thursday and 11am to 3 am Friday - Sunday closed Monday. This is the Union Meat Butcher's day off, why would this company take it off? Anyway, 4 employees entered the building through the front door once the restaurant finally opened and each had a live puppy dog in their arms. They took the dogs into the kitchen. 15 minutes later my brown lentil soup arrived. I ordered the lentil soup as a replacement to red tomatoes base on the pizza too. Was it dog shit soup on my food? I have no idea. I am on antibiotics this week, just in case, though. Moreover, puppies in the kitchen, and even behind the counter in the work area, are a health code violation.

Located in one of the coolest areas, Aside of Heart turned out to be a great experience. Traveling is always hard for vegans, challanged to find place to not only have a decent, nutritious meal, but also to be among others not questioning our choices. Aside was the exact place I was willing for: friendly staff, great food cooked with love, and a welcoming atmosphere.
To eat I had a falafel-burger and humus which was great. And trust me, I know good falafel when I eat one. For desert I got a chocolate-chips cookie which was a bit dry - but that didn't stop me from taking 2 more 'for the road' :-) , I wasn't in the mood for smoothy (although it was claimed they have the best smoothies in town), so I got settled with a freshly squeezed lemonade.
For sure, Aside of Heart is a must for my next trip to Phoenix.

Lots of "buts"...
The nachos tasted alright, but gave me stomach ache.
The staff are friendly, but sorta spacey.
The space is fun and funky, but far from looking professional (or clean).
Wasn't a great meal but wasn't the worst either.
Glad I tried but won't be back here.

Aside of Heart makes the best smoothie in town. It also serves vegan pizza, vegan cupcakes, and experimenting with a vegan brunch buffet on Saturday. Its Oatmeal Breakfast Sausage is unique in their yummy breakfast scramble. Local and organic ingredients, with hours striving to eventually become a 24/7 vegan cafe. Stay tune on their Facebook page for specials and events!
