Ethiopian Vegan Pop-Up based in Williamsburg/Bushwick BK
Restaurant, Caterer, Other
Bunna Cafe is a vegan Ethiopian Travelling Cafe. We do pop up dinner parties, headline music and film events, flea markets, primarily in Williamsburg and Bushwick, BK. This is all leading up to the opening of the venue, which we are aiming to do by the end of Fall 2012.
Right now we are doing a regular pop-up dinner party series in Bushwick/Morgantown BK, called Habesha Nights. We overhaul a loft apartment and serve 24-30 people with food, Ethiopian drink, a Musical guest, and the traditional Coffee Ceremony.
We are doing flea markets, pop-up restaurants, and street fairs every weekend this summer. On June 3 we'll be at the inaugural Grand Slam Festival hosted by the Grand Street Alliance.
At our events we serve vegan Ethiopian food, which is an array of saucy and mildly spicy dishes based on lentils, chickpeas, green peas, and served on a fluffy savory sourdough flatbread called injera. We also serve a variety of Ethiopian beverages including Tej -- Ethiopian honey wine -- considered by many the national drink.
We end each dinner with the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, which involves the roasting and grinding of raw coffee beans on a stove and the brewing of a strong but not overwhelming coffee called "Bunna".
Our final venue will expand on the menu we already have for events. We will perform the coffee ceremony throughout the day and also have a stage for music and other types of performance. We are planning on opening in East Williamsburg.
