Directions:

From Mopac (Loop 1), exit Windsor and go west. This exit is a little tricky on south-bound Mopac (Loop 1), so be mindful - if you hit Lamar, you've gone the wrong way. The first major light you will hit when traveling on Windsor is Exposition. Turn right (north). Nu Age is on your right at that intersection, so turn immediately into the parking lot.

Severe allergic reaction due to milk in food! Our son almost quit breathing after eating the soy nuggets. The waiter told us Nu Age Cafe was vegan, but as EMS was taking our son to ER, the manager(?) told us 5 menu items contain whey! Menu says "no animal products, no dairy" - this is purposefully deceptive!

Deceptive Business Practices - NOT VEGAN!

I have been vegan for nearly 16 years and was deceived by Nu Age Cafe about the presence of animal-based ingredients in their food. This was brought to my attention by a fellow vegan who was told by their waitress that certain dishes contained animal products. Several vegans wrote and called Nu Age to get the real story. We have heard at least five versions from employees but have not been directly contacted by the owners and have not even received a simple apology. The owners have been very unprofessional in how they have handled the situation. I will never return here again. It was a terrible experience. I recommend avoiding this place like the plague.

A very good vegetarian restaurant in west-central Austin. It opened in the beginning of 2005 in the Tarrytown shopping center. When they first opened up, they were only vegetarian, then switched to completely vegan, then switched back to just vegetarian. Beware that several of their dishes contain whey, so be sure to ask what's completely vegan and what's not.

I highly recommend the yam and yucca fries - quite an unusual delight! Their chocolate cake and sorbets are also quite good.

The interior projects an upscale atmosphere, and I've heard a few customers ask the hostess if they were under dressed, but don't let the upscale appearance intimidate you. You'll see most folks in jeans or shorts.

The price is a little high, but you can eat there relatively cheaply if you choose the right things. Despite the prices and their reluctance to stay vegan, it's still a good restaurant.
