We strolled into Native Foods on Milwaukee Ave right before closing, and they were kind enough to let us eat our to-go food in the restaurant until 10pm.

For food that takes about 10 minutes to make and costs about $10, it was great. We ordered one store special (BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich) and one standard menu item (Reuben). The BBQ sandwich was great. The jackfruit was nicely caramelized and the coleslaw added a nice crunch to the texture. The Reuben was good although the seitan wasn't terribly reminiscent of corned beef. Portions for both sandwiches were generous for the price, and both came with seasoned shoestring french fries.

This place gets five stars from me. The completely vegan menu is good, fast, and affordable. I'll be back.

A great addition to the Chicago vegan restaurant scene. The food is pretty good, but I don't care for the cafeteria-style service. I rather would like a normal sit-down service. Desserts are lovely!

I have written an extensive review on my blog. Please see here: http://veganmiss.blogspot.com/2011/09/vegan-chicago-restaurant-review-of.html

The desserts are awe-inspiring. Especially the cheesecake.

I do not consider this a fast food restaurant, even though you pay up at the counter and get your food very fast. All of the food is high-quality and quite wholesome.

Beware though, if you're like me and love faux-meaty-cheesy-greasy food, I would not recommend ordering that kind of stuff here. A lot of their faux meats and cheeses are not what you'd expect. E.g., their wings were bland tempeh, and the cheese on their nachos was essentially just bland hummus.

I was here for dinner opening day and there was a steady line of people the entire time. The staff handled it like pros. Our food was prepared to perfection in a timely manner. There didn't seem to be any kinks that they had to work out. Very impressive.

I ordered the Ensalada Azteca Salad. My partner had the Greek Gyro bowl. Highly recommend them both. Also fantastic was the lavender lemonade.

All vegan, organic, recycled napkins, outdoor seating, water bowls out front for dogs... I love this place. Can't wait to come back again and again.

If you're familiar with the neighborhood, Native Foods is just down the street from Bongo Room. Damen Blue Line stop.
