Lively Mexican Cuisine
La Feunte has great Mexican food in a lively atmosphere. The menu lists vegan and vegetarian plates that far exceed most Mexican restaurants in the area. Specify the black beans when ordering -- the pintos are not vegetarian. Make reservations or arrive extra early as this is one of the busiest restaurants in Milwaukee.
Take National Ave. to 5th Street, go north on 5th past La Perla, and it's about 2 blocks down, on the left. Several parking lots available, validate your parking ticket at the restaurant.

Best Mexican food in the city, as La Fuente combines good food, good service, and a good atmosphere. It seems like all the other Mexican places have only one (perhaps two) of those qualities. I've never had a bad meal here, so order whatever strikes your fancy. Definitely try to go on a nice day so you can sit outside, which makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
Best Mexican in the city. The selection of vegetarian plates are impressive, and most of the items on the vegetarian menu are vegan by default. The tacos de vegetales are incredible. Red and green bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, garlic, all sauteed and served in soft flour shells, with sides of delicious, saucy black beans and cilantro-flecked rice. This is my favorite plate, but the veggie burrito is also pretty good, and the guacamole is amazing. The only complaint I have about this place is that the vegetarian items seem to be more expensive than the rest of the menu.

This place is great for people who want the kitsch of an urban Mexican restaurant. I've never been impressed with the food and every single time I've gone there, I've been surrounded by obnoxious people who don't have inside voices.
