Review: I had the ginger tea, miso soup, tofu crusts with BBQ, broccoli & spinach with mustard sauce, beer-battered onion rings, cornbread, house bread, my daughter's spaghetti, and carrot cake.

Everything was just perfect. The service was outstanding. The atmosphere was wonderful, nice music and lighting.

We drove 1.25 hours to get there, but it was well worth it!

Highly recommend it. And you can shop at the New Pioneer Coop after the meal, which is right across the street

red avocado was wonderful! very good food, however, the portion sizes were very small. i had the sailor's platter which gave a good sample of what the restaurant had to offer. the food was incerdubly tasty and the syrup on my french toast was savory and delicious. the crepe i had was also very good.
my boyfriend had the mushroom crepe which was very tasty and also incredibly good! great food, small portions, a gem for those that are vegan in iowa!

My daughter and granddaughter who are vegetarian and I (vegan) ate there. Food was great. Prices were high but many ingredients are local.

Great food in a friendly atmosphere. Truly a treasure of Iowa City. Try their fresh juices, you won't be disappointed. We really enjoy the holiday brunches.

Comfortable atmosphere with friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating staff. I had the tempeh Reuben with chipotle pepper on the side. The Reuben was quite good, but I didn't care for the chipotle (lucky it was on the side!).

After discovering The Red Avocado, this is my restaurant of choice while in Iowa City. In my opinion, great care is taken to ensure that the highest quality ingredients are being served to their customers. There is a wide selection of menu options, unlike many "vegetarian" restaurants, that can appeal to almost any taste. Food seems to be very nutritious, as well as satisfying. Diners are welcomed regardless of attire, from very casual to formal. The intimate seating can lend itself to a "romantic" dinner.

I absolutely love the Red Avocado. If I could afford to eat there more often, I would. If you go for lunch, the jerk tempeh is awesome. The coconut/corn soup is another one of my favorites.

This place was great. The Red Avocado was my first experience at a veggie resturant. The hummus was creamy and airy, not at all heavy or grainy tasting. The corn/coconut soup was great, just a little spicy and a little sweet. They also serve homemade bread with your meal made right there on premise. Even my strict meat eating husband had to admit this place was great. Oh and fresh squeezed juice, how great is that!
