My girlfriend and I came visited Eureka last September for a good friend's wedding. I used to live in Humboldt and missed it terribly; the ocean, mountains, and all the friendly people and good veggie eats. I'd been away for quite awhile, however, so this was my first time trying the Golden Harvest Cafe. My girlfriend and I ate there two days in a row, and she still talks about the food! The first day we did lunch, and I had a seitan "chicken-bacon-ranch" type of sandwich, if I remember correctly. The second day we visited the restaurant for breakfast, and it, too, completely rocked. Go check this place out!! It will be one of the first places I stop next time I'm in town.

This place was all right. The tagline on their restaurant was "Herbivore, Carnivore, we have what you're looking for!" However, the menu didn't indicate vegan items and the server was not familiar with the term. Lots of fake meat (tofu sausage and bacon, crispy fried seitan), but no fake cheese or other dairy products. I built my own salad. Only one of their dressings was vegan (raspberry vinaigrette). That was disappointing. My partner had a crispy seitan sandwich - just a patty on a bun with lettuce and tomato. The fries were definitely from a bag in the freezer section and weren't very good. My salad was made with pre-sliced, bagged carrots, but I didn't mind that. Not especially vegan-friendly, but better than most standard American restaurants. Probably good for ovo-lacto vegetarians.
