Veg B&B

Hotel/B&B

Tenuta Savorgnano is an organic, vegetarian Bed & Breakfast. 300 year-old stone farmhouses offer both organic B&B rooms and self-catering apartments in a quiet, rural location near the medieval hill town of Anghiari, about 50 miles south of Florence. On the breakfast menu, one can find fresh juices and homemade bread. Evening meals are available by request, and utilize only local produce.

About 15 minutes from Anghiari in the hills near the hamlet of Savorgnano the houses of the Tenuta are tucked away on a shady lane leading down to a medieval church. Spacious and comforting bedrooms decorated with simple Tusacn elegance lead into a central lounge where guests can make their own tea or coffee gratis, or take advantage of the honesty bar. Breakfast is a convivial affair with guests seated together at a long table in the dining room or in good weather, outside under the pergola. Food is all vegetarian, all home-prepared (including the bread!), local and mostly organic. Evening meals are available by arrangement and - this being part of our belated honeymoon - we had dinner on the loggia as the sun was retreating. The British owners moved from Yorkshire in the Summer of 2010. They hope to make some changes towards a greener lifestyle and plan to grow their own herbs, fruit and vegetables. Both were very helpful with suggestions of ways to get the most out of our four nights there. Extensive grounds include a swimming pool (closed on our visit) and a car park & look out on heavily wooded hills. The area is awash with quaint little visited hill towns. Poppi, Monterchi, Montone, Anghiari and the heart-achingly beautiful Lucignano are not so far away. The splendours of Perugia, Florence, Siena and San Gimignano are between and hour and an hour and a half away.

Run by Jonathan Smith & Paul Sykes who used to own Mungo Deli Organic Grocery in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, before opening Tenuta Savorgnano in July 2010. Set in the peaceful hills near the Monte Rognosi Nature Reserve and yet only about 15 minutes from the atmospheric Medieval hill town of Anghiari. The central Tuscany location makes it convient for visiting the main attractions. You can stay on a B&B (three spacious rooms) or a self-catering basis (three mini-appartments). I stayed for a memorable week in September. The two eighteenth century farmhouses are lovely & the breakfasts feature Paul's home-made bread, fruit spreads, yoghurts, home-made granola & real freshly squeezed orange juice - which is a rare treat in Italy! Jonathan is vegan & Paul is veggie so the catering covers all bases. Highly recommended.
