I stopped in here last week and it happened to be a Tuesday. T-Mex happens to offer tacos 2-for-1 on "Taco Tuesday". How convenient. :)
I tried both the hard and soft shell tacos and got them with tofu since fried tofu is pretty uncommon in Mexican(ish) restaurants. The tacos were STUFFED with fried tofu, which was awesome. The tofu itself had a great texture and flavor but I think I would have preferred rice and bean tacos instead. The tofu tacos were pretty much only tofu, lettuce, and tomato, which left it a bit dry and flavorless. That said, they were 2-for-1 (averaging about $1.40 each) so I can't complain!
One thing I thought was odd was that various sections of the menu (tacos, burritos, salads) offered chicken, beef, tofu, rice or beans. I've never seen a place make you chose between rice and beans as a filling. Who wants a tortilla with just rice inside? Weird. T-Mex also adds a 10 or 15% gratuity to every order (even if your bill is $4), and has signs up that read "just water? just 25 cents!" so perhaps they are particularly price/cost sensitive.
T-Mex offers super nachos with vegetarian chili and you can get tofu with it so this is definitely what I'll be trying next time, perhaps with both rice AND beans. :)
