Awesome people (on both sides of the counter), good coffee, yummy eats, warm & friendly...plus it's a great place to study.

I have been to the second moon many times, and although there is a very eclectic group of people to meet there,it's not the main reason why I continue to go back. I suppose you might find a few things abit over priced, but no more than you would find in any other coffee shop about the cities.so that's of a small matter to me.The coffee is always outstanding,as good as a cup-o-joe can be, but that's not why I go back. There is something about the people who visit there. Friendly homespun folks. you can be your self and relax. But it's the staff that keep me coming back. Having a hard day? In need of a warm smile?Step in on a night when pippy(not her real name but you'll know who I'm talking about when you see her) is working. Her smile and greeting is worth the drive or walk. You will have a bad day melt away to a smile that says, glad you see you again my friend, and you will feel at home. That is how all the staff treat you there. You are not just a number, or a buck, you are old friend, even if it's your first time there. so come on down and meet every one. make a new friend. I'm the old bald biker you might see there, and I have a smile for you too. thanks, tinman

i used to work at the 2nd moon, so i felt i had to disagree with the review that cites "sketchy labor practices". the owners of the 2nd Moon (they own the Blue Moon on Lake St. as well) are very involved in the community and donate coffee, etc. to all sorts of progressive and neighborhood events and causes, and are really great women to work for. i would also say that almost half of their coffee is fair trade and/or organic, which isn't perfect but better than most...
p.s. the vegan peanut butter chocolate rice krispie bars are made with brown rice syrup, not honey, unless French Meadow changed their ingredients very recently.

Nothing special on the menu. They have herbal teas that are overpriced for their size, and a hummus sandwhich that is brought in by an outside vendor that costs too much for it's quality. The atmosphere was nice for our book club meeting of four people, though. They do have the same chocolate raspberry bars that so many other coffee houses around town have (made at French Meadow) and when I asked if they had any other vegan baked goods, I was told the peanut butter rice krispy bars were, but later informed they had honey in them - don't know what was up with that.

The Second Moon is one of my favorite Mpls coffee shops. Consistently good coffee, very personable service, great great atmosphere, incredibly group-friendly, also quite queer-friendly. There's a fantastic group of old-timey musicians who get together at the Second Moon Saturday mornings. I only have two concerns: relative lack of organic and fair-trade coffees and sometimes-sketchy labor practices.
