This is the only place in Eau Claire to get falafel and I'm glad it's around. Water Street Deli is an inexpensive, fast little dining spot and convenience store (with many Middle Eastern imports such as spices and tea) that offers some food variety in a town otherwise devoid of many vegan options.
I had a falafel sandwich ($6) which consisted of five or six falafel pieces, lettuce, tomato, onions and green peppers in a thin, tortilla-esque wrap.
The wrap was light and sort of flaky-fluffy and though it was white flour, I liked that it wasn't as heavy as a piece of pita.
The sandwich on a whole was decent, but not great. They didn't put any tahini on it, presumably because their version contains dairy, so it felt like it was missing something. That said, the tomatoes and onions added a good level of moisture and prevented the sandwich from being dry. The falafel pieces had good texture (crispy on the outside, soft on the inside) though not too much flavor in themselves. They could have used more herbs.
I'm looking forward to returning to try their hummus and baba ganouje. Eau Claire needs more places like this.
