Veggie Cheesesteaks

All of the cheesesteaks can be made with seitan instead of beef. To make vegan, request "no cheese, no mayo". They also have some other vegetarian options, including a "veggie works" sub with avocado, grilled onions and peppers and cheese. Apparently deep-fried veggie items are cooking in the same deep-frier as the meat items. I've heard employees tell this to people ordering seitan sandwiches several times - I'm glad they know this would be an issue for vegetarians/vegans.

This is one of our favorite "fast-food" choices in San Francisco. I always order the bbq seitan cheesesteak, "no cheese, no mayo". My girlfriend Erin loves the "veggie works". Tastes great both fresh and after sitting around overnight.

Jay's has very good seitan sandwiches. I like to get mine with avocado (they give a generous portion) and jalapenos. They also have veg-friendly (if not vegan) sides like mozarella sticks and fries. Round that out with a bottle of Jarritos and you're set. Not the healthiest of food, but it satisfies that craving for a hoagie.
