What a breath of fresh air on my cross-country drive. We stopped in, my first time ever visiting Nashville, and found this entirely vegan restaurant (the web says vegetarian, but you would have to order the cheese specially, so vegans are safe to order with impunity). The menu runs the gamut from full-on comfort food (biscuits n gravy?) to full-on health food (kale and pinto beans with garlic aioli?) and quite a few cultural variations in between, including some Asian, Mediterranean, and Mexican options. Together my partner and I got a lentil bowl, a "french quarter dip" hoagie and 2 smoothies, and everything was delicious. The matcha smoothie was a bit bitter for me, but he liked it (I ordered the beet/banana for my sweet tooth) and the portion sizes were great. We left very satisfied.
This place rocks - it's like hard times cafe with service, a nicer atmosphere, cleaner,
and better food for a slight increase in price. Dinner entrees were about $8-10 and the appetizer selection was quite good. I got sweet potato black bean tacos with vegan sour cream and it was delicious. A spinach and artichoke dip appetizer was really good and enough to split between two people. They had some almond chocolate swirl cheesecake which was hands down the best vegan cheesecake I've had so far in my life, and I eat it whenever I see it anywhere.
All the food and drinks on the menu were vegan, and if you wanted them not vegan you had to request otherwise. Don't let the name fool you - this is basically a vegan restaurant. I don't know if they sometimes have vegetarian items if the menu changes, but when I went 8/10/13 it was all vegan. They had pictures of adorable animals all over the walls (dogs, pigs, cows etc.) which I loved. Call in a reservation on weekend nights, it gets busy.
Great food, great atmosphere, clean, good service, this is a must visit for veg folks stopping in Nashville
